Seasonal Tips

Tips for Winter:

  • Before using your furnace... Make sure your furnace is serviced properly by professionals. This includes gas log fireplaces. Gas logs can soot your home if they are not placed properly. Things to look for if your furnace or gas logs are not properly serviced:

    • Black or gray lines on the ceiling with occasional spots where the nails are.

    • Dark stain along the lines and corners of the room (where the ceiling and wall intersect).

    • Improper cleaning of soot can push the soot into drywall.

  • Prepare for the cold and wind... Tighten up the cracks in your home, drain outside hoses, and cover or drain the faucets on the outside of your house to prevent frozen pipes. Don't forget to close crawlspace vents. Freezing winds can freeze the pipes under the home as well as the pipes in the exterior walls of poorly insulated homes.

    • Lowes and Home Depot have outside faucet covers, at minimal cost, that will attach to your exterior faucets to prevent freezing after they have been properly drained.

    • North Shore Restoration can properly dry your structure and contents to normal moisture content levels and offers the correct documentation to ensure insurance coverage.
